There are approximately 880Million adolescent girls and young women aged between 15-24 years of age. Despite making up 12% of the world’s population, this population is often left without a voice or control of their own bodies. Gender-based violence and limited access to health care and education, coupled with systems and policies that do not address the needs of young people, are obstacles that block adolescent girls and young women from being able to protect themselves against HIV, particularly as they transition into adulthood.

This group has a high vulnerability index and at high risk of contracting HIV. The situation is even made much worse for those who are neither married nor attending school as they tend to engage themselves in risky behaviours that expose the to HIV, un wanted pregnancies and gender based violence.

As Goshen's, we empower the AGWYs with skills to engage in income generating activities like hair dressing, craft making, vaseline making, jewellery. All this is to enable have an income for self sustainable to avoid engaging in selling sex for money and gifts.

The AGWYs have been empowered and many are running their own small businesses in their local communities.

They are also encouraged to have a savings culture through their Village Savings and Loan Associations.
